Letter: No debate that debate event was a success

To the Editors:

This past Saturday, the Wilton High School debate team had the honor of hosting 148 debaters at the Connecticut Debate Association State Finals. Two-person debate teams from schools across Connecticut squared off on the topic “Russia should actively seek to reincorporate those former Soviet territories with a substantial Russian population.”

This year the WHS debate team has grown to include more than 100 members and is a purely student-run organization, but to pull off an event as complex as a state final, many hands are needed. We write this letter to thank those who assisted with making the day a success.

Our sponsors, Pinocchio Pizza and Connecticut Coffee Company, were most generous in their support in providing food for the many competitors and volunteer judges. We are grateful for the steadfast support of Principal Robert O’Donnell and the custodians of WHS as well as the many parents who served as judges and/or provided help with our hospitality table, bake sale and registration. And last but not least, we send out a huge thank-you to our adviser, Ms. Allison Hujar, for her help not only on Saturday, but all year long.
