Letter: Hockey players trade ice for snow
To the Editors:
Members of the Wilton boys hockey team recently volunteered to shovel snow for senior citizens in the Stay at Home in Wilton organization after a particularly heavy snowfall. The work was arranged after John Miserendino, the coach of the hockey team, challenged his players to get involved in community service projects.
The student athletes did not accept payment for their work but suggested donations could be given to the Wilton food pantry instead.
Our members really enjoyed meeting the students and were so grateful for their services. Wilton High School students have participated in other intergenerational projects including instruction for senior citizens in the use of electronic devices.
I want to particularly acknowledge the work of Coach Miserendino who has inspired in his student athletes a sense of community.
