To the Editor:
Approximately 400 Wilton fourth graders came home from school the week of May 11 chattering about the exciting day they spent at the Wilton Historical Society’s Young Yankees Colonial History Program. They had a hands-on day, learning about Colonial-era tasks and activities such as weaving, spinning, hearth cooking, spoke-shaving, barn raising, the blacksmith shop, drawing water and life in the militia. This year we added a wonderful experience with a Native American Narragansett descendant, who welcomed the children to her wigwam and taught them about local history and material culture.
We could not have offered such a rich and engaging program without the invaluable support of Gregory & Adams. Celebrating their 50th anniversary, they renewed their commitment to education by supporting the Young Yankees 4th Grade Colonial History Program. Thank you!
