Letter: Graduation volunteers make it all happen
To the Editors:
On Saturday, June 18, the 58th Annual Wilton High School graduation exercises were held at the Tom Fujitani Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium. The success of the ceremony and the reception would not have been possible without the generosity of volunteers and businesses in and around our community.
We are so appreciative of the annual supporters of our graduation ceremonies each year: Nancy Dolnier and the Village Market who prepared dozens of cookies and refreshments for all graduates and guests; and retired Wilton Fire Capt. Karl Dolnier, who loaned, delivered and supervised the setup and breakdown of the refreshment tent. A special thank you to Greggs Garden Center and Landscaping of New Canaan who generously provided a wonderful array of trees, shrubs and flowers that framed the stage and beautifully decorated the field; each served such a vital part of delivering a successful graduation ceremony for our seniors, and it would not have been the same without them!
Preparing for graduation began on Friday with distribution of caps and gowns and senior gifts: thank you to Shamala Fazio, Mary Higgins, Tracy Chabrier and Linda Lyall for managing that process.
A special thanks to Laura Imrie for securing Greggs Garden Center and Landscaping and for laying out the design plan. The field looked amazing thanks to the beautiful plants and an outstanding group of volunteers. Thank you to our Saturday morning early risers: Tracy Chabrier, Savet Constantine, Tom Comer, Carl Fazio, Shamala Fazio, Jory Higgins, Jeff Imrie, Cameron Imrie, Scott Ingerman, Marly LeBeau, Kerry McMahon, and Francis Serra.
Jose Figueroa and WHS’ amazing custodial team supported our set up team in countless ways! They work incredibly hard and we are so grateful for all they do — day in and day out for our students and WHS!
Thank you to our refreshment team led by Kerry McMahon. This team helped decorate and set up the field tent, provided and passed refreshments to hundreds of students and guests and then stayed late to ensure everything was cleaned up. Her team included Victoria Hirsch, Alison McDowell, Jamie McDowell, Linda-Chow Silva, Lauren Yoon, and rising WHS seniors Suzy Clasby, Elizabeth Farrell, Lynne Huffard, Amelia MacGregor and Abby McMahon. Key Club members, Chris Chabrier and Hallie Chabrier also provided assistance in carrying ice and beverages to the reception tent.
Thank you to Paul Brant and James Mannix who assisted in gathering up the plantings and quickly and safely moved them off the turf after the ceremony.
A sincere thank you to senior parent, Claire Craven, who for the second year has overseen graduation preparation with endless enthusiasm and dedication.
Finally, a heartfelt thank you to Principal O’Donnell and the Wilton High School administrative staff who truly led the way to make Graduation Day a success for all.
Congratulations and best of luck to the class of 2016!
