Letter: Give Obamacare one more shot

To the Editors:

This past Saturday Mr. Trump announced his contract with the voters. There are some common-sense ideas that have resonated with me as a voter. There is one proposal that I do not agree with, and that is the repeal and replacement of Obamacare. Just today the White House made public its findings for next year that rates will be going up 25% in many areas. Mrs. Nancy Pelosi stated that we will just have to pass it in order to find out what is in it. As insurance companies cancel their contracts with Obamacare, those enrolled will find limited options for health insurance. These are the same insurance companies that co-wrote Obamacare with the president. How ironic they no longer find it workable.

Here is my reason for wanting Obamacare to live on for one more year. In the event Mr. Trump wins, I would like to see him enact a law that puts all senators and congressmen on Obamacare. If it was good enough to pass in the first place by our elected leaders, good enough for all of us “common folks,” it must surely be good enough for our elected officials. Mr. Obama exempted them from joining the tens of millions of Americans who were left with this subpar health insurance coverage. Our elected officials should have to deal with the bureaucracy that we deal with on a regular basis. These bureaucratic elites are the true 1%, and in their minds Obamacare is just for us “common folks.”

Mr. Trump talks about draining the swamp. I don’t know if that is a good idea. We might not like what we see when the water is gone.
