Letter: A wet but winning day at Ambler Farm
To the Editors:
On Sunday, Oct. 6, the 13th Annual Ambler Farm Day was held to great success despite a steady, light rain. An event like this takes many hands — more than 50 volunteers planned Ambler Farm Day and nearly 150 volunteers shared their time and talents with us on Sunday, and we express our sincere thanks to everyone whose hard work resulted in lots of smiling faces, laughing children, and families spending time together all afternoon.
We would also like to thank the following businesses and organizations for their generous support: Aspetuck Apple Barn, Blue Jay Orchard, Bob’s Your Uncle, Kuss Farms, Naked Greens, the town of Wilton, Village Market, Wilton Community Emergency Response Team, Wilton Department of Public Works, Wilton Family Y, Wilton Fire Department, Wilton Historical Society, Wilton Kiwanis Club, and Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
Thanks also to the numerous individuals and local organizations that donated their time (as well as pies and baked goods): Mary Kimberlin, who spent an entire day sharing her pie-making expertise with 20 others to produce more than 50 pies for the event; Georgia Davala for letting us gather apples from her trees; Beth Culnane, who prepared delicious salads from Ambler Farm produce for our concession stand, and Farmer Jonathan Kirschner for sharing produce and time beyond the fields to help us in many ways.
Kevin Meehan and the Ambler Farm apprentices and mentors worked tirelessly to ensure a successful event, and we also couldn’t have done without the groups of youth volunteers from Key Club and Our Lady of Fatima.
To our sponsors, we owe many thanks — Bankwell in Wilton, Events Party and Tent Rentals, Moments by Andrea Photography, Tall Trees Landscaping, and Teed & Brown; we appreciate their support and commitment to the farm. Proceeds from the day will go directly toward the ongoing operations of the farm and the restoration of the Raymond-Ambler farmhouse.
Lastly, we would like to thank the incomparable Wilton community for coming out to support the farm. Ambler Farm belongs to all of you, and we welcome anyone who would like to get involved in Ambler Farm Day 2014 or in any other capacity. Please visit amblerfarm.org for more information.
