Letter to the editor: Bad donations

Overlooked in the chaos of the Christmas season was a revelation that the state Democratic Party caught red handed taking donations from disgraced FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried. The Southern District of New York has made it a priority to smash crpto-phonies and our party looks bad. Chair Nancy DiNardo was left explaining the mess. While there is no way to eliminate such taint in the industry of campaign fundraising, the Democrats should have been smarter.

The old adage — look to who is giving money and you’ll know who they are actually working for — is true. It’s a world of exclusivity, financial backrooms, from Wall Street to Greenwich and big donations are the real commodity.

All’s well with donating the funny money to a charity that works to solve poverty, like the poorhouse of old, because such corruption will make beggars of us all.

Bankman-Fried just becomes the scapegoat for an industry that challenges the legitimacy of the greenback for primacy — it took 10 years for anyone to notice.
