Steven Gesser died on Sunday, Oct. 6 after an eight-year battle with cancer. He was 58 years old.

Born May 1, 1955 in Brooklyn, N.Y., he is the son of Madeline and Herbert Gesser of Hewlett, N.Y.

Mr. Gesser grew up on Long Island and attended Hofstra University. He met his wife, Diane Parus, on Fire Island. They were together for 32 years, and lived in Wilton before she also succumbed to cancer July 15 of this year.

Mr. Gesser spent many years as an accomplished jazz pianist and composer before returning to school to become an optician. In 2001, he opened Optix Plus in New Canaan.

He is survived by his mother and his siblings, Ronnie, Gigi and Leslie.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Gesser’s memory to support research to cure neuro endocrine tumors.
