Stephen Sherwood Buckingham, 52, of Jacksonville, FL and a Wilton, CT native, died suddenly on the afternoon of December 14th.

Born in St. Louis, MO on December 14, 1961, he was the son of Martha Hedeman Buckingham and the late Richard Sherwood Buckingham of Savannah, GA, formerly of Wilton, CT.  Steve graduated from Wilton High School in 1981 and Denison University in 1985.

He was a widely respected member of the facilities supplies industry, working for leading distributors for many years. Most recently he was the Area Market Manager for Hagemeyer NA. “Buck,” as he was widely known by his friends, was an Eagle Scout and played lacrosse at Wilton High School and Denison University. He was very involved in the Fairport, NY Youth Lacrosse program for many years and helped start the lacrosse program in Waukesha, Wisconsin. He recently coached in the Jacksonville area.

Steve was an avid lover of life, lacrosse, NASCAR, Cape Cod, and most importantly, his family. All who knew him well remember his warm smile, infectious laugh, good-natured humor, and down-to-earth personality.

He is also survived by his wife Kimberly Lum Buckingham of Jacksonville, FL, former wife, Karin Van Voorhees and two daughters, Meredith and Haley of Oconomowoc, WI, stepsons Alex and Michael Lum, sister Linda Buckingham Thomson and her husband Peter Thomson of Wilton, CT, and nephews Scott and Doug Thomson.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 25th, 1 p.m. in the chapel, at The Skidaway Island United Methodist Church in Savannah, GA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to US Lacrosse, 113 West University Parkway, Baltimore, MD 21210. Please indicate on the checks First Stick Program in memory of Steve Buckingham.
