Obituary: Richard A. Grano, 80
Richard A. Grano, age 80, of Wilton, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 15, 2018, at his home. Born in Forest Hills, NY, on May 3, 1937, he was the son of the late Andrew and Mary Fazzio Grano originally from Palermo, Sicily.
Richard will be remembered as a very kind, gentle and soft-spoken person. But when he believed in something, he was strong-minded. He was all about positive thinking and perseverance. He was a man who took a sincere interest in his friends’ lives, who were often the lucky recipients of his “bear hugs.” Richard cared very deeply for his family.
Richard graduated from Manhattan College in New York City and then received an MBA from Stanford University. He began his business career with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. in New York City and then Caracas, before joining the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, where he worked for 28 years as Director General in Buenos Aires, Rome, and Mexico City. He also worked as Director General for Cia. Hulera Euzkadi, S.A. in Mexico City before moving to Connecticut, where he started a company that manufactures and sells specialized machinery used by financial, medical, insurance, and other various industries.
He is survived by Cynthia Lowrance Grano, his love of twenty-nine years, their son Alexander L. Grano, who remembers his dad as his best friend and mentor, son Roberto Grano of Falvaterra, Italy, and daughter Angela Grano Saviotti (Alessandro) of Rome, Italy; and three grandchildren Giulia Grano, Francesco Saviotti, and Pietro Saviotti. He was predeceased by son Richard F. Grano of Rome, Italy. He is also survived by sisters Florence McCann and Marion Cozzi.
Richard cared very deeply for his family and of great importance to him was spending time with them. He loved their nightly dinners, enjoying holidays with family and close friends, and sharing in his son’s passion for golf, exercise, and business.
A Memorial Celebration Mass will be held on Wednesday, February 21, at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 229 Danbury Road, Wilton, CT.
