John Dexter (J.D.) Picozzi of Stratford, CT. passed away on October 20, 2015 in St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Bridgeport, CT. John was born in Boston, MA. on January 9, 1961. He was the loving son of Dexter A. and Dorothy Picozzi whom preceded him in death. John was a lifelong resident of Fairfield County. He is survived by his brother, Alan Picozzi and his wife Barbara of Wilton, CT. and his sister Susan Sullivan and her husband Brian of Redding, CT. J.D spent most of his childhood in Weston. He loved taking rides in the car with his mom, and eagerly anticipated the pasta and meatballs that his dad made especially for him. He developed a close bond with his sister as they were only a year apart. When the three “Cozzi Kids” engaged in one of their frequent group hugs, his hearty laughter was always a byproduct. At the age of four, he was diagnosed with Autism by the experts at Yale-New Haven. From that point on, he spent most of his time in residences dedicated to the nurturing of the developmentally challenged. Most recently, he lived in a wonderful group home in Stratford, operated by St Vincent’s that provided thoughtful care and respect for his needs.
J.D., who spoke with his eyes and smiles, enjoyed his outings to Seaside Park, local Restaurants and even a local high school football game. He enjoyed Rock Music bands like Chicago that featured a big brass sound. He developed an affinity for the Notre Dame Victory march, having become accustomed to the tune when his brother, an alumnus, and his Dad watched the football games on Saturday afternoons.
