Jo Ann Conlan, of Hilton Head Island, S.C. and formerly of Wilton, Conn., passed away June 28, 2016 at the age of 92.
Born May 29, 1924 in Rockford, Ill., she was the daughter of Herbert and Bessie Kasper. She graduated from Lawrence University, Appleton, Wis., in 1945. She married Richard J. Conlan Jr. on Sept. 4, 1948, and raised two sons Thomas and John. She was preceded in death by her oldest son, Thomas, June 1, 2011.

Jo Ann is survived by her husband Richard, and Tom’s wife Diane and their two children Leigh Anne and Tyler. She is also survived by her son John, his wife Evelyn, and their two children Jamie (Jensen) and Robert. She leaves four great-grandchildren: Olivia Jensen, Jo Anna Jensen, Edith Conlan, and Theodore Conlan, and her first cousin Martha McGrath of Bluffton, S.C.

Following their marriage, Jo Ann and Richard spent eight years in New York City, then moved to Connecticut where they lived for 30 years before retiring to Hilton Head Island in 1986. Jo Ann loved volunteer work and spending time with her bridge and rug hooking groups.

While living in Wilton, she and her husband were members of the Silver Springs Country Club in Ridgefield, Conn., and spent much of their leisure time playing golf and traveling. Her warm smile and enthusiastic love of life endeared her to all she met. She always made room for another chair at the dinner table, which was often needed as she was an outstanding cook.

She and her husband were charter members of Dolphin Head Golf Course on Hilton Head Plantation and loved to entertain. She leaves a great void in the lives of those who knew her and will be greatly missed.

A memorial service has been planned for Saturday, July 9, 2016, at the First Presbyterian Church of Hilton Head Island at 2 p.m. in the Honey Horn Chapel. All are welcome to attend.
