Obituary: Francis E. Harrison, 87

Francis E. Harrison died peacefully in The Villages, Fla., on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016. He was born on Oct. 7, 1929, in New York City to the late Dr. Francis and Miriam Harrison of Stamford, Conn. He lived most of his life and raised his family in Stamford until moving to Fairfax, Va., in 1994 for 11 years, and then to The Villages in 2005.  

He was the father of seven children, and grandfather of 16; including Wilton residents Patricia Harrison Brandt, her husband Michael and their children, Spencer, Harrison and Katie; and Margaret Harrison Santacroce, her husband Thomas, and their children, William, Andrew, and Anna. The other five siblings are Mary Michel of Barrington, Ill.; Frank Harrison of Stamford; Katherine Pelson of Barrington, R.I.; Brian Harrison of Ashburn, Va.; and Amy Klimek of Fairfield, Conn. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Irene Finneran Harrison, in 1989.

He attended St. Basil’s Preparatory School in Stamford and St. Michael’s College in Vermont. In Florida, he was a member of the San Damiano Third Order of Franciscans and devoted a tremendous amount of time to the St. Vincent dePaul Society and Hospice of Marion County, visiting with patients in their final hours. When not volunteering, he enjoyed playing golf and bridge, and entertaining his friends.

Earlier services were held in The Villages. Additionally, the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1, at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford. A Mass will be celebrated at 11 on Friday, Dec. 2, at St. Leo's Catholic Church, 24 Roxbury Road, Stamford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Hospice of Marion County, 9730 SE 43rd Ct., Belleview, FL 34420.
