Colletta Helen DeMott, widow of James DeMott and long-time resident of New Canaan, Norwalk, and Wilton, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2016, at Hickory Creek Nursing Home in The Plains, Ohio, where she had been in gradual decline in body and mind.

The daughter and last living child (four brothers and sisters predeceased her) of Philip Ventrella and Philomena Errico, Helen was born in Norwalk on Feb. 13, 1916. There she attended public schools and graduated from Norwalk High School in 1934.

She was employed as office manager of James Rutherford’s medical practice in New Canaan for nearly 40 years. She was married to James DeMott of Stamford from 1940 to 2007 and they had one son, Robert, a professor at Ohio University.

Remembered for her warmth, generosity, compassion, common sense, and sense of humor, “Lovey,” as she was affectionately known by friends and family, is survived by her son, Robert, of Athens, Ohio, her granddaughter Elizabeth DeMott and great-grandson Nicholas Ramadan, both of Paramus, N.J., and by many nephews and nieces in Connecticut, Florida, California, and Washington.
