Charles F. Abbott, 87, from Wilton, Conn., and Danby, Vt., died peacefully on July 8, 2016.

He was born in Wilton, son of Harry and Caroline Abbott. In 1949, he married his wife and lifelong partner, Isabella Dear of Newburgh, N.Y. They were married for 67 years.

Abbott was a captain of the Wilton Volunteer Fire Department for many years, as well as an avid member of the Yankee Antique Truck Club. He was a collector of antique fire trucks, tools, and farm equipment. At his farm in Danby, he shared his love for animals, gardening, and farming with his whole family. Through his construction company, Abbott Construction, he used his lifelong passion for carpentry, building, machines, and of course iron to help others. Above all else, he was a kind and giving soul who loved and provided for his family through and through.

Abbott is survived by his loving wife Isabella; his sister Caroline Strempel; his brother Kenneth Abbott; his daughters and husbands: Diane and Robert Fredette of North Clarendon, Vt., Kathy and Clyde Baxter of Wilton, and Jennifer and David Hewitt of Danby; his sons and wives: John and Barbara Abbott of Rutland, Vt., and Charlie and Laura Abbott of Bridgewater, Conn. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Michael, Jessica, Amanda, John, Carolyn, Andy, Steven, Emily, Kaitlin, Amy, and Jack; and four great-grandchildren: Natalie, Sophia, Luke, and Grace.

A funeral took place July 13 at Wilton Congregational Church. Arrangements were entrusted to The Bouton Funeral Home, 31 West Church Street Georgetown, Conn.
