Joseph Edward Devine of Litchfield, Ct. died after a short illness in his 90th year.

He was married for 61 years to the former Nina Cave and leaves four children; Henry Devine (Catherine), Joan Morosani (John), Nancy Pike and Mary Alison Celico as well as a sister, Catherine Devine Hayden, nine grandchildren and three step grandchildren. A son, Anthony Dowdney Devine predeceased him in 1949.

Born in Clarksburg W. Va. he had lived in Wilton, Ct. for 47 years and was a former member of the Wilton Riding Club. He graduated from the Hotchkiss School in 1942 and was a student at the University of Virginia when he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. Released as a first lieutenant, he worked for 15 years in the advertising business. In 1965 Joe was a founder of the national executive search firm Devine, Baldwin and Willis which in 1977 became Devine, Baldwin and Peters of New York and Boston. He served as chairman and treasurer until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of the Union Club in NYC and the Sanctum in Litchfield.
