Frances Ford Hills, 96
Frances Ford Hills, longtime resident of Wilton, Connecticut, left life on this earth on Wednesday, July 10, 2013. She was 96 years old. Frances spent her childhood years in Owenton, KY, where she grew up with her seven brothers and sisters, and four half brothers. She began coming to Wilton in 1935 when she was 18 years old. She visited and worked for her uncle and aunt who owned Hawkstone Antiques, located in the home that she and her husband Arthur later purchased. Frances lived in her home over 60 years, where she and Arthur had an antiques business. Frances loved buying and selling, and over the years developed a keen eye for beauty and style. She gained a vast general knowledge of early American antiques, and was an avid collector.
Over the years, she has had so many devoted customers and friends. Her passion and love for antiques has inspired many people to become collectors, and in many cases, antiques dealers. She loved her business, as she said it gave her the opportunity to own so many beautiful things, if only for a few days. She was very fortunate to be able to earn a living doing something she loved so much.
Frances has been a member of the First Congregational Church of Ridgefield for over 50 years, and was active in Family and Children’s Aid Services.Besides talking with and entertaining her countless friends, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, playing cards, and keeping in touch with her family. Until the end of her life she had a sharp wit and a delightfully keen sense of humor.
She is survived by her daughter Lynne, of Ridgefield, three sisters: Alice Stein of Atlanta, GA, Sarita Ford of Mulberry, FL, Elizabeth Tanner of Cynthiana, KY, and many nieces and nephews. She leaves behind so many friends, and she will be remembered and dearly missed by many people. Instead of flowers, if you wish to honor her, you can make a donation to the Alzheimer Association, a charity of your choice, or simply do something kind for someone you don’t know.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
Interment will be private.
The Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah Street; Ridgefield, CT. is in charge of arrangements.
