Doris May Gormbley, 92
Doris (Dottie) Gormbley went peacefully home to God on Sunday, July 14, at the age of 92 having lived a full and wonderful life. Born to T. Frank and Adeline Cushing on September 17, 1920 in Springfield, Dottie met her husband, Bill Gormbley, in Commerce High School, Springfield, Massachusetts.
She graduated from Commerce in 1938 and received her BA degree from American International College in 1942. Following her marriage to Bill, she worked at MIT during the Second World War, while he served in the Navy in the South Pacific. Following the war she earned an MBA from Boston University and then a 6th year professional degree from Bridgeport University. She was an executive secretary for several years before stepping into her career as an elementary school teacher in New Canaan, Connecticut. Dottie was an avid outdoorswoman and a masterful gardener.
She touched many lives and will be missed by those who love her. She is predeceased by her husband, Bill, of 63 years and is survived by her two sons, Mr. Steven P. Gormbley of Southbury, CT and the Rev. Dr. Robert Gormbley of West Springfield, MA and her five grandchildren. As Dottie wished, there are no services planned. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wilton Congregational Church for the Dr. Bednar Memorial Fund.
