Town hires emergency response coordinator

Michael J. Vincelli joined the Wilton Health Department last week as emergency response coordinator. His appointment was effective Friday, Feb. 7.

Mr. Vincelli, who will work under Health Director Barry Bogle, held this position several years ago under the previous health director, Steven Schole. The position is part-time and has been vacant since February 2012.

“It has a lot to do with public health preparedness,” said Sarah Taffel, Wilton’s director of human resources. The position involves having documented plans in place in the event of a public health crisis ranging from a flu outbreak to a problem with the water supply to an anthrax attack, Ms. Taffel said.

The position “is funded with state Department of Public Health grants to assist in paying for the planning, policies and drills,” she said.

Mr. Vincelli previously held the position of emergency preparedness coordinator with the Greenwich Department of Health. He also works in a similar capacity for the Westport Weston Health District and is a member of the Greenwich Medical Reserve Corps.

According to a press release from the Greenwich health department, Mr. Vincelli “was very influential in maintaining a local presence at state emergency preparedness meetings, assisting with maintaining the department’s emergency preparedness web page, researching available grant opportunities, providing training for department staff and other town response agencies. He also pursued the creation of the department’s Medical Reserve Corps and worked locally with town departments and community agencies on emergency preparedness efforts.”
