At the Dec. 12, meeting of the South Western Region Metropolitan Planning Organization (SWRMPO), First Selectman Bill Brennan was elected chairman, and Gayle Weinstein, Weston first selectman, was elected vice chair.

The SWRMPO is responsible for transportation policy development, planning, and programming of federal transportation funding for the southwestern Connecticut region. Mr. Brennan previously served as vice chair and succeeds Westport First Selectman Gordon Joseloff. Members of the SWRMPO include the chief elected officials of the region’s eight towns of Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford, Weston, Westport and Wilton, as well as the directors of the region’s transit districts.

Mr. Brennan said he was "honored to receive the support of my CEO colleagues to lead the SWRMPO, as we  work together to address regional transportation challenges, safety improvements and equitable funding issues, which critically influence the operating and economic viability of south western Connecticut."
