Budget meetings take up several months

Budget season is underway, and town departments are meeting with the Board of Selectmen to review budget requests for the coming fiscal year. These meetings are open to the public and listed on the calendar on the town’s wiltonct.org website. The five-month calendar may also be downloaded by clicking “Budget Meeting Calendar” on the home page.

The next meeting is this evening, Jan. 22, 7:30, in Room B, when town contributions to Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County and the Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps will be taken up.

Budgets for the town clerk’s office, registrars of voters, and Parks and Recreation will be discussed Monday, Jan. 26, beginning at 7:30.

Earlier this month, budget discussions took place for Wilton Library, Ambler Farm, and the following town departments: finance, assessor, tax, IT, benefits, land use, public works, police and social services.

The Board of Education will deliver its budget to the Board of Finance on Friday, Feb. 6, and both boards will review the budget on Monday, Feb. 9, 7:30 p.m., at the Wilton High School Professional Library.

The Board of Selectmen will conduct a budget workshop on Wednesday, May 11, at 7:30, and the following evening, May 12, also at 7:30, the Board of Education will have a capital projects discussion with the Board of Selectmen. Both meetings will take place in Room B of town hall.

The Board of Selectmen will have a budget work session Thursday, Feb. 26, at 7:30 in Room B of town hall and will deliver its budget to the Board of Finance on Friday, March 6.

The Board of Finance will review the Board of Selectmen budget on Wednesday, March 18, 7:30 p.m., in Room B of town hall. Public comment is not allowed at any of the Board of Finance meetings with the Board of Education or Board of Selectmen.

The Board of Finance will hold a public hearing on the Board of Education budget on Monday, March 23, 7:30 p.m., at Middlebrook School.

The following evening, March 24, will be a public hearing on the Board of Selectmen budget, also at Middlebrook. Public comment is invited at both public hearings.

The Board of Finance has two dates set aside to consider the mill rate: March 31 and April 1, both at 7:30 in Room B of town hall.

The Annual Town Meeting is set for Tuesday, May 5, at 7:30 p.m., in the Clune Center. Voting will follow the meeting. The adjourned vote will take place from 9 to 6 on Saturday, May 9, also at the Clune Center.
