Wiltonian Sam Schmitt was one of two local students to receive a Silvermine Community Scholarship Award this year.
The Silvermine Community Association, which includes the Silvermine community in New Canaan, Wilton and Norwalk, has been awarding scholarships to community residents for more than 55 years to help in their pursuit of higher education.
The other recipient was Robert Lewis-Zimmerman, of Norwalk.
To date, more than 300 high school seniors have received a Silvermine Community Scholarship Award, which in past years have ranged from $250 to $3,000.
Each year, based on the number of applicants and their qualifications, the number of scholarship recipients varies.
The Silvermine Community Scholarship Awards relies entirely on the support of the Silvermine neighborhood for its funding.
