Wilton High School sophomore Duncan Vogel was named a finalist in this year’s First Year Excellence in Chemistry scholarship competition, sponsored by the Western Connecticut Section of the American Chemistry Society.

Fairfield County high schools are each allowed to send one student enrolled in a first-year non-AP chemistry course to enter the competition. Duncan is currently taking Chemistry III at Wilton High School.

The first part of the competition consists of a written exam and the top five finishers move on to a 20-minute oral exam. The combined scores from both exams are used to determine the top three finishers of the competition.

In 2014, Wilton High School sophomore Jessica Huffman placed first in the competition and received $1,500.
