Student musicians perform in all-state festival
Four Wilton High musicians performed at the 2013 Connecticut Music Educators Association (CMEA) All-State Festival April 4.
Chase Smith ’14, bass; Evaline Xie ’15, alto; and Xavier Gilles ’16, tenor, were accepted as members of the All-State Choir while Elliot Connors ’16, trumpet, was selected to play in the All-State Jazz Ensemble. The students rehearsed for two full days in Cromwell, Conn. before concluding with a concert that featured all ensembles held at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford on April 4.
To be considered for acceptance into this festival, these students auditioned for and performed in the CT Western Region festival held in January. After this festival, a second round of auditions was held in February for the purpose of selecting the top musicians from the four regions across the state.
The students rehearsed and performed with top conductors from around the United States. The chorus was conducted by Dr. Patrick Walders of San Diego State University while Ronald Carter of Northern Illinois University led the jazz ensemble. The festival is an annual event for Connecticut high school music students hosted by the Connecticut Music Educators Association.
