Congressman Jim Himes (D-4th) is inviting students to apply for appointments to service academies throughout the United States.

To be considered for an appointment to a service academy, an applicant must receive a nomination from an authorized person, such as a member of Congress.

Mr. Himes may nominate applicants who legally reside within the boundaries of Connecticut’s 4th Congressional District.

Applicants must be a citizen of the United States, be over 17 but have not passed their 23rd birthday, unmarried, not pregnant, and have no legal obligation of support children or dependents.

The application deadline for a nomination to the Military Academy at West Point, the Naval Academy in Annapolis, the Merchant Marine Academy in New York, or the Air Force Academy in Colorado for the 2014 school year is Dec. 2.

The Coast Guard Academy in Connecticut does not require a nomination.
