The prestigious P.E.O. STAR Scholarship for the 2017-2018 academic year has been awarded to Wilton High School graduate Stephanie Xie. The scholarship was presented by Marianne Wallace, STAR Scholarship Committee chair, at the July meeting of Wilton P.E.O. Chapter AL.

Stephanie is the daughter of Qi Tan and Frank Xie of Wilton. She was nominated for the scholarship by Chapter AL. Stephanie will attend Rice University in the fall where she plans to study cognitive science.

The P.E.O. STAR Scholarship is a $2,500 merit scholarship awarded based on excellence in leadership, extracurricular activities, community service and academics, and potential for future success. The program is open to young women who are citizens or legal permanent residents of the United States or Canada. The candidate must be a high school senior at the time of application and must be pursuing post-secondary education. Nomination by a P.E.O. chapter is also required.

The P.E.O. Sisterhood, is an international philanthropic and educational organization that promotes increased educational opportunities for women.
