Christine Higgins, who joined Wilton High School as a German teacher this year, took part in this year’s Deutsche Woche Bar Harbor, a week-long summer seminar sponsored by the Maine chapter of the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG), the Goethe Institut, and Elms College.

Deutsche Woche Bar Harbor gives German teachers the opportunity to “receive professional development in an immersion setting,” according to the Maine chapter of the AATG.

This year’s seminar took place July 31 through Aug. 6 at the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine.

Over the course of those seven days, Higgins and other German teachers from across the United States took a course called Approaches to Teaching Cultural History, where they compared their own history, films, holidays, monuments, texts, music and art to German icons.

They also had a chance to meet the German Consul General Ralf Horlemann from the German Consulate of Boston.
