The Wilton Board of Education has been named the recipient of the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE)'s 2018 Bonnie B. Carney Award of Excellence for Educational Communications for its social media content.

Karen Klein, of the Westport Board of Education, presented the award on behalf of CABE Area 6 to the board during its March 29 meeting.

The award is named after longtime CABE staff member Bonnie B. Carney, who spent much of her 47 years at CABE focused on communications, and is given to education boards who demonstrate “effective communications” with parents and taxpayers in their districts, according to CABE’s website.

“To win this award, you need to have a clarity of message, image and consistency, and the specific guidelines of readability, editing, graphics, type and format,” said Klein, who “really enjoyed reading” the Wilton school district’s content like is Notes from the Board Table columns.

The Westport Public School District is “just starting to do social media,” said Klein, “so I’m glad that I’ll have such a good example to bring back to our board.”
