Wilton is the best Connecticut suburb to raise a family, according to ranking and review site Niche.com.

For its 2016 Best Suburbs to Raise a Family ranking, Niche used data from the U.S. Census, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other sources to grade areas in nine key factors that may appeal to families looking for a suburban place to live.

Wilton received the following grades:


  • Public schools: A+

  • Cost of living: D+

  • Residents 14 years old and under: 25.1%

  • Crime and safety: A

  • Family Amenities: A+

  • Real estate: C+

  • Residents 35-44 years old: 13.1%

  • Higher education rate: 75.9%

  • Diversity grade: C+


Other Fairfield County suburbs ranked as follows:

  • No. 2: Darien.

  • No. 3: New Canaan.

  • No. 13: Byram (Greenwich).

  • No. 15: Glenville (Greenwich).

  • No. 22: Monroe.

  • No. 66: New Fairfield.

  • No. 82: Sherman.

  • No. 92: Danbury.

  • No. 94: Stamford.

  • No. 98: Shelton.


Niche also ranked Wilton the second best place to raise a family in Connecticut and its public schools the second best of all Connecticut’s suburbs .
