Wilton mom leaves kids alone to go shopping

A Wilton police officer was sent to the Avalon Wilton apartment complex at 116 Danbury Road on Friday, Sept. 18, at 5:04 p.m., to check on the well-being of two young children playing unsupervised on the complex grounds.
The officer saw them playing in a grassy area near the street and was told by neighbors they had seen the mother get into her car and leave the premises.
The children were 8 and 6 years old. A Connecticut statute dictates that no child under the age of 12 should be left unsupervised in a place of public accommodation.
When Lin Vaccaro, 46, who lives at Avalon Wilton, returned, she explained she had gone to Walmart to shop.
She was charged with leaving children unsupervised in a public place and released on a promise to appear at Norwalk Superior Court on Sept. 28.
