Members of Wilton CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) participated in a search for a missing person in New Canaan Thursday morning, Nov. 7.

Operations Officer T.G. Rawlins said the New Canaan police requested mutual aid at 5:58 Thursday morning to “search for an unaccounted-for patient at Silver Hill Hospital.”

He said Wilton CERT joined New Canaan CERT, New Canaan police and fire, state police, canine teams and others searching the surrounding areas of the hospital.

The search was called off at 8:30 a.m. when police discovered the patient had left the area.

“We had 15 members on scene and standby,” Mr. Rawlins said.

The team used search and rescue equipment that included four backpacks filled with a first aid kit, duct tape, insect repellent, radios and other items.

CERT conducted a search and rescue exercise last year in Bradley Park to prepare for an event such as this.

Wilton police Lt. Stephen Brennan acted as overall commander for Wilton.
