Unsafe start ends in DUI
On the rainy Dec. 27 around midnight, a Wilton patrol officer witnessed a southbound 1997 Mazda MX-5 Miata that had been stopped at the intersection of Danbury and Westport roads fishtail when the light turned green.
Stopping the car on Westport Road near Heather Lane, police found the driver, David Karachuk, 50, of 9 Rayfield Road, Westport, under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.1894. The legal limit is 0.08.
Karachuk was taken into custody and processed. He was charged with DUI and unsafe motor vehicle movement, and was released on a promise to appear at Norwalk Superior Court on Jan. 5.
