Thanksgiving weekend: State police stop 1,538 motorists as of Friday morning

As of 8 a.m. Friday, Nov. 25, Connecticut State Police have made 31 drunk driving arrests and issued 416 speeding tickets, 53 tickets for seatbelt violations and 1,038 tickets for other hazardous moving violations this Thanksgiving weekend.

State police also investigated 199 accidents — 15 of which were with injury.

Less than two hours after state police issued these statistics, two Massachusetts men died when their car crashed into a tree and caught fire off I-84 west in Southbury.

State police have increased patrols this Thanksgiving weekend, with a focus on drunk and aggressive driving. Increased patrols started midnight Wednesday, Nov. 23, and will continue through 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27.
