On Jan. 14 around 10 a.m., a northbound 2012 Ford Escape drifted across the two southbound lanes of Danbury Road and struck a metal utility pole near 14 Danbury Road, causing it to fall.

According to police, the driver, Paul T. Egan, 53, of 23 Arrowhead Road said he “did not fall asleep,” but there were no signs that he had attempted to brake or make an evasive maneuver.

Egan’s Ford was badly damaged and was towed, and the state Department of Transportation replaced the utility pole that had fallen.

Egan was charged with reckless driving and released at the scene. He is scheduled to appear at Norwalk Superior Court on Jan. 25.
