Police make arrest in Campus Jewelers theft
Wilton police have made one arrest so far in the theft of $21,000 worth of jewelry from Campus Jewelers at 5 River Road. Further arrests are expected.
The robbery took place Oct. 18, 2017. According to police, three women and one man were involved. The three women distracted the two salespersons while the man allegedly took jewelry from behind the counter and put it in a brown paper shopping bag he was carrying. The suspects then purchased an item with cash before all four left the store with the stolen items.
Wilton police were assisted in their investigation by the New York Police Department, Nassau County Sheriff’s Department, and the FBI in New York City, and ultimately identified those involved. Arrest warrants have been obtained for all suspects.
The Nassau County Sheriff’s Department arrested Yolanda Santa, 56, at her home in Ridgewood, N.Y., on Jan. 19, as a fugitive from justice on a warrant obtained by Wilton police for her involvement. After waiving extradition, she was turned over to Wilton detectives and brought to Connecticut on Jan. 31. She was charged with larceny 1st and conspiracy to commit larceny 1st and held on $100,000 bond. She will be arraigned at Norwalk Superior Court on Feb. 1.
