Police Log: DUIs, asleep at the wheel, money laundering

DUI


A 42-year-old Ridgefield man was charged with driving under the influence, improper use of high beams, failure to signal, failure to carry an insurance card and driving without insurance on Oct. 23 at 10:03 p.m. on Danbury Road.

Police said Joel Mena, of 725 Branchville Road, Ridgefield, was released on $250 bond with a court date of Nov. 3. His blood alcohol level was 0.18. The legal limit is 0.08.

Police said Mena was observed driving unusually slowly with high beams on while passing oncoming traffic. After police spotted him, they stopped the vehicle and he showed signs of being intoxicated, then failed field sobriety tests.

Asleep at the wheel


A Wilton man fell asleep at the wheel but avoided injury the afternoon of Oct. 25 when his vehicle passed harmlessly through the opposite lane of traffic and fell into a ditch by the side of the road.

Police said Paul Egan, 54, of 23 Arrowhead Road, was driving his Ford Escape on Danbury Road near New Street at 1:30 p.m. when the accident occurred. He was charged with reckless driving and will appear in court Nov. 17.


Larceny


A 21-year-old Bridgeport resident was charged with three counts of conspiracy to commit larceny and one count of money laundering on Oct. 21 at 6 a.m. at the police department, on a warrant.

Police said Chynih Coker came to the department to turn herself in on the warrant, for an incident that took place Nov. 16, 2015, in which she cashed a fraudulent check from a Wilton company, First Properties, in the amount of $2,500 at a Bridgeport branch of Bank of America. She also cashed another check, from another business, and police expect another arrest of a second person. She was held on $10,000 bond with a court date of Oct. 21.

DWI


A 49-year-old Chicago man was charged with driving while intoxicated on Oct. 21 at 12:49 a.m. in the area of Range Road.

Police said Thomas Chamberlain, of North Odell Avenue, Chicago, was released on $500 bond with a court date of Oct. 21.

Officers had responded to a motor vehicle accident on Range Road and following an on-scene sobriety test, determined the driver was intoxicated.

DUI


A 20-year-old Norwalk woman was charged with driving under the influence, DUI under the age of 21, driving without insurance and failure to drive in the proper lane on Oct. 19 at 11:40 p.m. on Nod Hill Road.

Mackenzie Pellini, of 5 Rockmeadow Road, Norwalk, was released on a promise to appear in court Oct. 27. Her Toyota Camry had struck a telephone pole.

Police said they responded to the accident and Pellini was found inside the vehicle. She appeared intoxicated and did not know where she was. She was later sent to Danbury Hospital for mental evaluation.

Keys found


A set of Ford car keys and a black and white skateboard were recovered and given to the police on Oct. 18.
