Police Log: DUI, car burglaries, found smartphone
A 35-year-old Greenwich man was charged with driving under the influence and related charges Aug. 12 at 9:20 p.m.
After being stopped on Belden Hill Road following a complaint of erratic driving, the driver showed signs of intoxication, police said. He was taken to police headquarters where he refused a breath test.
Three passengers in the vehicle also showed signs of intoxication and were brought to police headquarters to await a taxi.
Dimas Tobar-Rodriguez, of 13 Rippowam Road, Cos Cob, was charged with DUI, carrying insufficient insurance, failure to drive right, and failure to provide proof of registration. He was released on $260 bond with a court date of Aug. 22. The vehicle was towed to a storage yard due to insufficient insurance.
Three separate incidents of car burglary or attempted car burglary occurred at the Wilton YMCA Aug. 20 between the hours of 3 p.m. and 3:15 p.m.
The incidents were reported at 3:28 p.m. and involved the theft of purses, wallets, a cell phone, debit and credit cards and identity documents.
No suspects were identified but a cell phone was recovered as evidence and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
A 19-year-old Weston man was charged with driving under the influence Aug. 11 at 5:45 p.m. after pulling into a driveway on Seir Hill Road that was not his and becoming unresponsive.
A passenger in the vehicle was also unresponsive and was sent to Norwalk Hospital for evaluation.
The driver was apparently under the influence of marijuana and other drugs, police said. He was unable to perform standard sobriety tests.
Vincent Walters, of 132 Godfrey Road East, Weston, was released on $250 bond with a court date of Aug. 22.
A iPhone was discovered by a Wilton resident on the field near the Gilbert & Bennett Community Cultural Center Aug. 10 at 12:54 p.m. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 203-834-6260.
