Officer Diane MacLean to join Special Olympics torch run

Officer Diane MacLean, a 13-year Wilton Police Department veteran, was selected as a law enforcement representative to Connecticut’s Special Olympics Program.

Ms. MacLean will also participate in the 2014 USA Games Final Leg Torch Run in New Jersey this June.

Leading up to the Special Olympics opening ceremony, Ms. MacLean and other law enforcement officers nationwide will carry the Flame of Hope to many towns and communities in order to raise awareness for the Special Olympics Games.

Six Special Olympics athletes have been chosen to run with the officers.

Ms. MacLean has raised money for the Special Olympics through events like Tip a Cop and Over the Edge. She has also participated in the Torch Run for the length of her career.

The 2014 Special Olympics takes place in New Jersey, June 14-21. Around 3,500 athletes will compete in 16 Olympic-style team and individual sports.
