A man from Mt. Vernon, N.Y., was arrested for carrying a BB gun in his glove compartment on Saturday, April 18.
Javier Padilla, 20, was arrested after he was stopped for speeding on Route 7. During the traffic stop, he pre-emptively told officers he had a BB gun in his glove compartment. They secured the vehicle and removed the gun without incident.
According to police Lt. Stephen Brennan, the BB gun closely resembled a Smith & Wesson automatic pistol.
Padilla was arrested for having a weapon in a vehicle and was cited for possession of marijuana.
In Connecticut, a BB gun may be transported in a car only in the trunk or in a locked box.
He was released on $1,000 bond and is due in court on Tuesday, April 28.
