The Wilton Police Department is investigating a Feb. 7 car accident in which a black Range Rover allegedly struck and knocked down the mailbox at 27 Deforest Lane and fled. This address is near the New Canaan border.

According to police, a neighbor out walking saw a “newer model” Range Rover “with dark tinted windows” that had sustained “heavy front end damage” traveling on South Bald Hill Road near North Wilton Road in New Canaan around noon.

Farther along in the neighbor’s walk, the damaged mailbox at 27 Deforest Lane and certain “car parts” nearby were seen. Police said there is a “high probability” the Range Rover hit the mailbox shortly before the pedestrian witnessed it driving.

The witness saw two men, “both in their late teens/early 20s,” in the Range Rover. The driver was described as 5’ 10” with dark, curly hair. The passenger was described as 6’ with long, shaggy dark hair.

Anyone with information relevant to this investigation is encouraged to call Wilton police headquarters at 203-834-6260 and ask for Officer Smaldone.
