On Friday, July 26, Wilton police arrested Ernest J. Bailey, of 43 Wilton Avenue in Norwalk, for third degree criminal attempted burglary.

At about 3 p.m. on Friday, a resident of Seir Hill Road reported hearing her doorbell ring, but did not see anyone at the door. She then encountered Mr. Bailey entering her back sliding door. Upon seeing the resident, Mr. Bailey said he “was looking for someone else” and quickly left. The resident watched Mr. Bailey leave the property in a gray Ford Explorer, and recorded his license plate number. The license plate number was later used by police to identify Mr. Bailey.

At 4:15 p.m. the same day, another resident of Seir Hill Road called police to report a burglary that had occurred within the past two hours. The resident noticed property moved around the house, and a few old cell phones had gone missing.

Further investigation is ongoing into the second incident to determine whether Mr. Bailey committed the burglary.

Mr. Bailey was on parole for previous convictions, and his parole officer issued a remand to custody in light of allegations of attempted burglary. Mr. Bailey was arrested at his home in Norwalk, and was held without bond. His court date was set for Monday, July 29.
