Man arrested after trying to break down door during domestic incident

A Wilton man was charged with disorderly conduct last Sunday after he tried to break down a locked door behind which his “family was seeking safety,” police said.
Robert Smith, 51 of Clover Drive was arrested Sunday, April 19, around 1 a.m. after another person living in the home called to report he had become confrontational and was throwing items around the house.
Apparently, police said, when that person attempted to prevent elementary school-aged children in the home from seeing Smith’s behavior, he escalated the situation and attempted to break down a locked door.
When police arrived, they found Smith passed out in his car. They suspected he was under the influence of alcohol.
He was held on $250 bond and was due in court on Monday, April 20.
