Man accused of stealing from hospice patient

Joshimar Craig Russell, 27, of Bridgeport was arrested by Wilton police on Tuesday, Dec. 30, after he allegedly stole $3,000 from an elderly man for whom he was providing hospice care at The Greens at Cannondale.

Mr. Russell was arrested on a Wilton warrant for third- and sixth-degree larceny, making a false statement in the second degree, third-degree forgery, and identity theft after he was pulled over for a traffic violation in Fairfield.

An arrest report alleges Mr. Russell stole three personal checks from the man in hospice care, who was physically and mentally unable to write checks.

In August 2014, police say, Mr. Russell forged two of those checks and deposited them into his own bank account. Each check was written out for $1,500.

In September 2014, Mr. Russell attempted to deposit the third check, also written out for $1,500, but the victim’s account had been frozen by that time.

Mr. Russell was not an employee of The Greens at Cannondale but was a subcontractor hired through Quality Care Services of Westport.

He was released on $3,000 bond and his court date is Jan. 9.
