Drunk driver is repeat offender

On Aug. 12 at 7:58 p.m., police received a report of an erratic driver sideswiping a car in the area of Route 7 and Old Mill Road and fleeing the scene.
Police said the driver who fled, Ryan Kohler, 31, of 4 College Street, Norwalk, drove his car through town to the area of Heather Lane and Thistle Lane with heavy front-end damage.
When police found his vehicle, Kohler was not inside it.
Shortly after, Kohler was found face down in some bushes near the car, police said.
He did not perform a field sobriety test to standard and refused a Breathalyzer test.
Kohler was arrested on the charges of failure to return license, operation under suspension, reckless driving, evading responsibility, and DUI.
He posted a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 25.
Police confirmed that Ryan Kohler of 4 College Street, Norwalk, is the same Ryan Kohler of 16 Massachusetts Avenue, Fairfield, who was arrested by Wilton police on June 28 for DUI on Route 7 near School Street after failing to dim his high beams.
