Drunk New Canaan driver crashes into utility pole

Police arrested a New Canaan man on a DUI charge and failure to drive in the proper lane on May 27.

Connor Fleming, 25, of 71 Mariomi Road, was found in his 2011 Audi A5 at 1:59 a.m. after a resident of Weeburn Lane called to report a loud crash which appeared to come from Ridgefield Road.

Police said the car had been travelling southbound on Ridgefield Road, left the roadway south of Weeburn Lane, and continued off-road, striking a utility pole, breaking it in half, and continuing an additional 150 feet until coming to rest at the entrance of Fullen Lane.

The “entire right side of the vehicle was severely damaged,” police said, and both airbags were deployed.

Fleming was not injured. He did not perform field sobriety tests to standard and was found to have a blood-alcohol content of 0.2776. The legal limit is 0.08.

Fleming was arrested and assessed a $250 bond. He has a June 6 court date.
