Cipolla and Phillipson promoted at police department
Stepping up the ladder of rank and responsibility continued to be the order of the day this week as two more veteran Wilton police officers were promoted in ceremonies at the Wilton Library’s Brubeck Room.
On April 3, Capt. John Lynch became the new police chief. On the morning of April 5, Town Clerk Lori Kaback administered the oath of office to Capt. Rob Cipolla, who had been a lieutenant, and to Lt. Gregg Phillipson, who had been a sergeant.
The ceremony was attended by about 50 family members and fellow officers, plus firefighters.
“It’s a great day for a step forward,” said Chief Lynch after the officers were pinned with their new badges by their wives, Maryann Cipolla and Vickie Phillipson. Dignitaries included First Selectman Lynne Vanderslice.
Cipolla had been a lieutenant since 2015. He holds bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a master’s degree in public administration. He has been named Community Officer of the Year.
Phillipson had been a sergeant since 2013. He holds an associate's degree in criminal justice and will soon have a bachelor’s degree in public administration. He was named 2005 Officer of the Year and is a recipient of the Medal of Honor.
