Wilton artist David Dunlop will give a talk on Art and Sex, Sunday, Feb. 10, at 4:30 in the Sara Victoria Hall auditorium at the Silvermine Arts Center in New Canaan. Mr. Dunlop will explore sex as motivation, motif and the unconscious and overt determinant of the appearance and process of art. How is sex used to appeal, to horrify, to constrain, to define, to control, to solicit, to submit, to tempt, to guide, to question and to understand and challenge our imagination, values and identity? Have you wondered how sexual mores, tastes, and roles are determined by art? How is our sexual biology a determinant in the substance and appearance of art? This exploration reaches back to our first historical representation on stone, to artists’ work today. A popular speaker, Mr. Dunlop has been a teacher at the Silvermine School of Art since 1993. He is a modern-day old master whose luminous landscapes draw from both Renaissance techniques and contemporary science. Tickets for Mr. Dunlop’s talk, which is expected to sell out, are $10 for members and $12 for non-members.
