Wilton Y offers triathlon training program for kids

The Wilton Family Y is partnering with TOUGHKids Triathlons to offer a six-week training program that conditions boys and girls 7-14 for the triathlon sports of swimming, cycling and running. There will be a free training demonstration on Wednesday, April 3, from 3 to 5, in the Wilton Y lobby.

Through the program, young athletes learn:

• how to train for racing and improve their skills,

• good nutritional habits,

• bike safety,

• proper athletic gear,

• and techniques to develop the cardio capacity necessary for completing a full youth triathlon.

The program will prepare participants for the TOUGHKids Triathlon which will be held in Ridgefield this summer, if they wish to enter.

The six-week TOUGHKids training program at the Y will run from April 23 to May 29 from 3:30-5:30 on Tuesday and Thursdays. Participants must have a swimsuit, goggles, bicycle and helmet.
