CBS Radio journalist Dave Barrett of Wilton was honored with a National Headliner Award. In an announcement on April 18, Barrett won second place in broadcast radio networks and syndicators feature and human interest story for a piece he did on Nat King Cole for The Observation Deck.

Now in its 83rd year, the National Headliner Awards, which is one of the oldest and largest in the country, honors the best journalism in newspapers, photography, radio, television, and online sites.

CBS Radio News in New York won seven awards, including breaking news or continuing coverage, best feature and human interest story and best documentary or public affairs reporting.

This was the first award of any kind won by The Observation Deck, Barrett said. Taking first place in the category was a piece called Retired Elephants by Peter King of CBS Radio News.
