Masterson nominated to serve on field usage subcommittees

During its Oct. 13 meeting, the Board of Education nominated Wilton resident TaraLeigh Masterson to provide input as a member of the Parks and Recreation Commission’s recently formed Field Usage and Field Location subcommittees.

About a month ago, Board of Education Chair Bruce Likly said, First Selectman Lynne Vanderslice told him and Superintendent Kevin Smith that she was forming the subcommittees to “evaluate the current utilization of all fields in Wilton,” and asked the education board to nominate a resident.

“As I understand it,” Likly said, the subcommittees’ objectives are to “do a good job of understanding how our fields are being utilized now, and based on that knowledge, [figure out] where we go for the future.”

Likly said Smith has already designated Wilton High School Athletic Director Chris McDougal to serve on the subcommittees.

Masterson is president of the Wilton Youth Field Hockey's board of directors, a Wilton Youth Lacrosse board member, and has children involved in a number of youth sports in town, Likly said.

Not only is she “already highly active in the community,” he said, but she also has “first-hand knowledge and experience of the contention” surrounding the fields.

Education board members Christine Finkelstein and Glenn Hemmerle said they fully support nominating Masterson.

“I think we’d be lucky to have her,” said Finkelstein. “She’s exactly the type of person to have involved.”

Before anything is finalized, Likly said, the Board of Selectmen must vote on the education board’s nomination of Masterson.
